Does your baby have the giggles yet? Plus tips for pumping at the office

What’s Going On With Baby

Remember when your baby was beginning to coo and make small sounds? At week 13, your baby may start to laugh, chuckle, or babble in longer chains. This is a fun time for parents because you’ll start exploring what makes your baby laugh. Is it your facial expressions? A Sound? A family pet? Prepare your camera because you will not want to miss capturing these sweet moments of joy!

What’s Going On With Mom

If you’re continuing to breastfeed and have started back at work, you are likely on a pumping schedule. If you stay home but still breastfeed, you will inevitably have to pump on the go or at someone else’s home. Either way, preparing for these out-of-the-home pump sessions will be essential. Here are some tips for pumping away from home, either at the office or someplace else:

  • Familiarize yourself with laws and regulations. You should be protected under laws that ensure you can take breaks to pump at work.

  • Communicate with your employer. Let your employer know that you must take breaks for pumping each day and check to see where you can appropriately do this.

  • Consider using a portable pump. Battery-operated or rechargeable pumps are handy for pumping with flexibility and mobility. Just make sure you switch between your portable pump and an electric pump so your supply doesn't dip.

  • Pack a dedicated pumping bag. Ensure you have everything you need in one bag so you can grab it quickly.

  • Wear suitable clothing. Wearing appropriate clothing where you can pump efficiently is worth the effort.

  • Practice efficient pumping techniques. Massaging to help milk flow or experimenting with different pump settings will help you find the most efficient way to express breast milk.

What’s Going On With Partner

Spending time with your baby is as easy as incorporating them into your hobbies! Of course, this will look different than when you enjoyed your hobbies without kids, but it’s still a great way to bond. Here are some ideas for combining activities you enjoy with your little one:

  • Running with baby in jogging stroller

  • Taking baby on a short golf outing

  • Hiking

  • Camping

  • Taking walks

Be flexible with your plans since babies can be unpredictable. You may be surprised to find how well this works! Plus, Mom can get some time to herself while you and baby are out of the house.
