Pregnancy Guide for Couples: Week 15
This week, your baby is moving like crazy, but you probably can’t feel them yet. If you’re having trouble sleeping on your side (rather than your stomach), we’ve included some tips below.
What’s Going on with Baby
At Week 15, your baby is the size of a smartphone!
Your little baby’s bones are developing and hardening so much that they will soon become visible on ultrasound images! Baby’s scalp hair pattern is also beginning to form. Here are other ways your baby is growing:
Taste buds are forming, and nerves begin to connect them to the brain.
Baby’s legs are starting to become longer than their arms.
Your baby is moving constantly, but you are probably not feeling them just yet.
What’s Going on with Mom
Now that your belly is growing, are you curious about your sleep position? Some experts suggest that it’s best to sleep on your left side once you’re in the second trimester. The evidence for this is mixed, so don't stress about your sleeping position. If you wake up on your back, just flip over to your side! If you’re having trouble sleeping, here are some tips:
Utilize your pillows. Putting pillows between your knees and under your belly can help comfort you.
Stay active. Exercise suitable for pregnancy can help you get a good night’s rest.
Manage fluid intake. Hydration during pregnancy is essential, but getting a good night’s sleep is hard if you’re up peeing throughout the night. Try to limit your intake of liquids in the evening.
Bedtime routine. A calming and relaxing bedtime routine can help with sleep. Think about taking a warm bath, reading, or taking deep breaths.
What’s going on with Partner
You can help with Mom’s bedtime routine to get as good of a night’s rest as possible during the pregnancy. One of the ways that you can do this is by preparing a relaxing bath for her. Here are some ideas for giving Mom the bath of her dreams:
Make sure the water is warm but not too hot
Dim the lights or use candles to create a soothing atmosphere
Play soft music that she enjoys
Keep the bathroom space warm so that she’s not chilled when she gets out
Use pregnancy-safe bath products or Epsom salts
Make sure a non-slip mat is in the tub to prevent slips
Provide a bath pillow or towel to support her neck
Offer her a glass of water or relaxing tea to stay hydrated during the bath
