Pregnancy Guide for Couples: Week 35
Just five weeks until your due date! Can you believe it?
What’s Going on with Baby
At Week 35, your baby is the size of a decorative vase!
This week, your baby’s kidneys are fully developed, and their liver can process some waste products now. You should still be feeling baby move often and regularly. More ways your baby is growing include:
Baby’s nervous system is becoming more complex, allowing for improved coordination and responsiveness
Baby is still practicing breathing
The liver also produces vital enzymes for digestion
Muscles and fat layers are continuing to develop
What’s Going on with Mom
Between week 35 and week 37, doctors typically perform a routine test on Mom called the GBS (Group B Streptococcus) swab. Here are some things to know about this routine swab test:
The test is straightforward and painless: A sterile swab gently collects samples from vaginal and rectal areas
The swab detects whether Mom has this type of bacteria in their gastrointestinal or genital tracts
If Mom is positive for GBS, there is a risk that this can be passed to baby, so doctors usually prescribe antibiotics during labor to prevent this from happening.
This should not change your birth plan except that you may need to be hooked up to an IV intermittently to administer the antibiotics.

What’s going on with Partner
Before baby arrives on the scene, take the time to seriously deep clean and declutter your home. You certainly won’t have time to do this once baby is here! Plus, it will be totally worth it to have a clean and well-organized home when baby sets foot for the first time. Here are some tips for getting this task done:
Start with the rooms that Mom and baby will frequent the most
Clean out the fridge and freezer space (especially if Mom will be freezing breastmilk)
Decluttering items from closets will help make room for baby’s things
Cleaning and decluttering the vehicle will make room for baby too
