Baby Registry Tips for First-Time Parents

Creating a baby registry can feel overwhelming if you’re a first-time parent. With a seemingly endless list of adorable onesies, fancy gadgets, and oh-so-necessary baby gear, it’s easy to get lost in the sea of options. But don’t sweat it! We've got your back by sharing the must-haves that’ll make your life easier. Let’s break it down so you can create a registry that’s practical and reflects your style as new parents.

Why You Should Make a Baby Registry List

A registry is basically a wishlist for all the stuff you need when expecting a little one. It's like a fun shopping spree, but instead of you buying everything, your friends and family can help out. You pick out items like diapers, cute clothes, and toys and then share that list with your loved ones. They can choose what to get you, so you don’t end up with 10 of the same baby blanket.

If you are unsure when to make a list, we recommend planning this during your second trimester. That’s usually around the 20-week mark when you’ve got a pretty good idea of what you’re having (if you found out early), so you can really tailor your list. Plus, it gives your friends and family plenty of time to shop for you before the little one arrives!

Online Baby Registry vs. In-store Baby Registry

There are options when it comes to registries. With an online registry, you can chill in your PJs, scroll through endless baby gear options, and add whatever you want with just a click. Plus, you can share the link with family and friends so they can shop from anywhere!

On the flip side, there’s something special about an in-store registry. You get to feel the products, check out the colors, and maybe even snag some cute outfits you wouldn’t have thought about online. It's more fun to shop in-store with your partner, too.

Either way, give yourself plenty of time to research before you register for baby.

First Baby vs. Second Baby Registry

Building a registry for a first baby often includes the goal of creating the best baby registry ever. Mom or Dad tend to spend more time researching the best baby products to ensure they are prepared when the baby arrives.

There's typically a different approach to creating a registry for your second baby. As a seasoned parent, you know which baby items are worth adding and which you can pass on. Some parents may not register at all for a second baby or they may take advantage of gathering more diapers and wipes because those always seem to run out quickly.
